A “flagship” scheme in Liverpool for 195 homes has been given the seal of approval.Torus Developments wants to demolish vacant buildings, on land at Lightbody Street, for five residential blocks and commercial units within the railway arches.All the properties in their development will be affordable under the Rent To Buy scheme.Of the housing, 70 will be one-bed apartments, 93 two-bed apartments and 22 three-bed apartments, while 10 townhouses facing onto the canal are planned.The applicant has described it as “flagship scheme for Torus” – which they hope will “act as a catalyst for positive change in this unique and important part of the city”. It also includes a small public square and an accessible cycle and pedestrian route.Members voted and approved the application, subject to a number of conditions at a meeting of Liverpool City Council’s planning committee.The scheme is likely to take two years to construct.
